Welcome to Dunkirk Volunteers Station 5
The Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department is a 100% volunteer department located in northern Calvert County, MD. Calvert itself is a small, rural county situated between the Patuxent River to the West and the Chesapeake Bay to the east. The county fire and EMS protection is provided by volunteers as well in each of the departments. Dunkirk protects the northern entry into the county and responds to over 2000 runs a year. We provide Fire, EMS, and Technical Rescue to the citizens of Calvert, Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties. The members of Dunkirk take great pride in the station and apparatus and will continue to serve the citizens for many years to come. For questions or comments or for ride along info, contact the webmaster.

DUNKIRK GOES TO HUNTINGTOWN FOR A BLAZE
Friday, July 9, 2010 14:46
-
Just before 1500 hrs this afternoon, The DUNKIRK VOLUNTEERS were sent to 5811 Sunderland Ct. for the House Fire. This brought Engine 51(Lt. Sines), Tanker 5(Johnson), and Chief 5 with a total of 10 men to the run. Chief 5 arrived to find a 2 Story SFD with smoke showing, confirming a working basement fire with extension to the first floor, and requested the Working Fire Dispatch. Engine 51 (second due) arrived and assumed First Due responsibilities. The Engine crew forced entry on Side A, and advanced an attack line to Division 1, where they encountered zero visibility and high heat conditions. Engine 5’s crew found fire throughout the B/C quadrants of Division 1 and extinguished the same holding the fire in check at the basement stairs.

Engine 6 arrived and stretched an attack line to the basement entrance where they were met with heavy fire conditions. The crew from Engine 6 entered the basement, and started to extinguish the same, however during the coordinated effort between Engine 5 and Engine 6 to knock this fire down, a flashover occurred in Division 1 with extension to Division 2 sending fire throughout the house. Both Engine 5, and Engine 6’s linemen did an excellent job protecting the crews with hoselines enabling all firefighters to evacuate the house (per command) without injury.

Within 45 seconds of the crews being pulled from the house, a section of the floor on Side B fell into the basement. As other units arrived on scene the fire was put in check defensively with multiple handlines. Once the fire was knocked down considerably , crews regrouped and re-entered to finish knocking the stubborn fire down.

This fireground had over 65 Firefighters on scene due to the temperature reaching in excess of 100 degrees outside, and all companies played an important role in this fire from rehab to fire suppression.

A special thank-you to the always supportive Chesapeake Grille and Deli,(www.chesapeakegrille.com) along with the McDonalds in Dunkirk, for providing copious amounts of refreshments to the Fireground.

Units remained on scene for 4 hours hitting hotspots, performing overhaul, and assisting the Fire Investigator.

2nd ANNUAL VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY A SUCCESS
Sunday, May 23, 2010
-
This past Sunday from 1200-1800 hrs the Calvert County Fire Rescue and EMS Office held the Second Annual Volunteer Appreciation Day at the Calvert County fairgrounds.  The DUNKIRK VOLUNTEERS showed up 30 members deep to show their support. It was a huge success as over 250 Volunteers attended, along with family members which put the total attendance around 500.  There was plenty of good food,  games, and contests for all ages.

The main event for the day was the First Annual County Volleyball Tournament.  Each Public Safety Department in the County entered a team into the tournament.  There were many good games played, and laughs shared throughout the tournament as the teams fought for pride in taking home the trophy.  At the end of the day, The DUNKIRK VOLUNTEERS squared off against The Prince Frederick Volunteers for the Gold.  The game was intense, as teams took turns exchanging points back and forth for about 45 min. until Chief 5 delivered a game winning, bone crushing spike to Chief 2 (SAWWY) to assure that The DUNKIRK VOLUNTEERS take home the Championship Trophy.  All in All it was a great day, and we look forward to the same fun next year.

Special Thank-You to Dunkirks Father/Son Coaching Support from Mike Weimer, and Lindsey Shaner! Great Job!!
